Principal’s Pen | Resiliency, Seminar, School Board & More
It has certainly been a busy and eventful term and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to the school holidays. Over the last term we have had some exciting events including the Mother’s Day stall, the helicopter visit, the Lap-a-thon and Pirate Day to name just a few.
As I mentioned in the last Principal’s Pen, our new school Business Plan 2018-2020 will be published next term. One of our major aspirations is to work closely with families to help our students become confident and resilient, with strategies to cope with the physical and emotional challenges we all face from day to day. Last month, Kerry Hartmann and I attended, ‘The Art of Resilience,’ conference. Over the next few issues of Principal’s Pen, I will be relaying some of the latest news and strategies that were discussed at the conference in a section called, “Resiliency Rules!” I hope you find this information as interesting and informative as I do.
FREE PARENT SEMINAR ON BULLYING- Thursday 2nd of August
Thank you to all those parents who responded to our call for expressions of interest regarding a free parent seminar on the topic of “Bullying.” Over 250 parents from across the four schools have shown an interest in attending. As a result the seminar will now go ahead and all parents are invited to attend on Thursday 2nd of August. The seminar will be held in the Woodvale Baptist Church and will run from 6.30-8.30 pm. Doors will open at 6.15pm.
On Monday night our School Board took part in a comprehensive board training session at Greenwood College. I would like to thank all our board members for attending. If you would like to learn more about how School Boards work you can visit the site below.
Our next Board meeting is scheduled for Thursday the 26th of July at 8.45am in the staffroom.
We are taking enrolments for 2019 now. You will need to enrol your child for 2019 if they are:
- starting Kindergarten – 4 years old by 30 June 2019
- starting Pre-primary, the first year of compulsory school – 5 years old by 30 June 2019
- starting Year 7, the first year of secondary school
Enrolment Applications need to be received by Friday 20 July 2018. After that date we will consider Kindy enrolments from children living outside our local intake area if we have positions available.
A huge thank you to our terrific P&C for organising last week’s school disco. It was so lovely to see our students, parents and staff enjoying the event in some fabulous costumes.
Well done to our TA14 superstars on another fantastic assembly. Your message about the power of a growth mindset is so important. What a way to end the term! Our next assembly will be presented by TA2 on Friday the 27th of July.
GOOD LUCK MRS LINEHAN
Yesterday we said goodbye to our lovely Mrs Linehan as she embarks on the next part of her life as a mummy! We wish her and her husband David all the very best and we can’t wait to meet her new baby sometime in the future. We also welcome Mr Kieran Knight as he takes over as the TA2 teacher.
As this is the last Principal’s Pen for the term, I would like to wish everyone a safe, restful and fun filled holiday. I look forward to welcoming our students back to school on Tuesday the 17th of July.Lynne
