Principal’s Pen | Welcome Back
Welcome to another year at Goollelal Primary School. The start of the school year is always an exciting time with much to look forward to and many new things to experience. There are new teachers, new classrooms and new friends, as well as old. Our students have already made a great start. Last week it was lovely to see so many happy faces as they moved into their new classes. They are already working hard and showing enthusiasm for the learning activities our teachers have planned. Our teachers are working hard too, setting up classroom routines and establishing expectations for the coming year. These will be outlined in an information booklet from each class teacher, which you will receive at the classroom meetings held in the first few weeks of the term. If you are unable to make these meetings, teachers will send a copy of the information booklet home with your child.
Mr Gus Symons
A number of parents and students have asked us for news regarding Mr Symons. As some of you may know, Mr Symons has been suffering from an ongoing health problem. Mr Symons has taught at Goollelal Primary for over 30 years and he is a very much loved and respected member of our school community. Earlier this week, Mr Symons announced that he will be retiring to spend more time with his family. If you would like to send Mr Symons a thank you card or letter, please send them to our front office and we will pass them on. I’m sure he would love to hear any anecdotes or fond memories you may have about him.
Next week our P&C will hold its first meeting of the year on Tuesday 13th of February. Meetings are held in the staffroom from 6.30pm.
Family Movie Night Friday 9th March
I am really looking forward to the Family Movie Night that has been organized by our terrific P&C. This event is to welcome all our new families to Goollelal Primary and it’s promising to be a great night for a picnic and a movie. We will be publishing more details on the school app closer to the date.
This year Easter falls within Term 1. As a result, all public schools will be closed on Tuesday 3rd of April. Please put this date in your calendar as Goollelal Primary will be closed on that day.
Student Health Care Summary Forms have been sent home this week, please complete and return these to Administration. Year 3 to Year 6 students will also receive an Acceptable Use Agreement ICT and Online Services form which needs to be signed by both the student and guardian (parent) and also returned to Administration.
Please click on the link below for the City of Joondalup’s School Parking brochure which provides information in relation to parking near schools as a reminder to parents and caregivers of their responsibility in ensuring that they park correctly near schools.
All our staff are looking forward to working with you this year to create the best learning environment for our students. Remember that if you ever have a concern or worry, visit your child’s teacher or pop into the office and have a chat. You are always welcome.
