Principal’s Pen | Interschool, Staffing, Netball, ICT NAP, Safety & Enrolments
Dear Parents and Families,
After an action packed term, I think you’ll agree that the holiday break has been well earned by our hard working students and staff. Students, please remember all the things your teachers and parents have taught you about keeping safe. Wear your helmet when cycling, look right and left before crossing the road and look after your friends and family when you are out and about. We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday 10th October, safe, rested and ready for another term of hard work.
On Monday and Wednesday our school hosted the annual Kingsley District Interschool Carnival. Goollelal Primary students competed against students from Marangaroo, Dalmain, Halidon, Hawker Park and West Greenwood Primary. Our staff worked tirelessly to plan and organise this carnival and it was another very enjoyable event. Thank you to Marcus Serravite, Geoff Rintoul and Kerry Hartmann for planning the day and for Jane Quirk, Marion Coad, Hans Christensen and Jarred Rees for all your assistance. It was terrific to see the great turn out from families and our P&C worked hard to set up a number of fundraising events during the day, including a delicious cake stall and the lucky $100 note which was won by the Gregory family. I would also like to say a big thank you to Cuppa Time for donating $130.00 to the P&C.
Once again, our students displayed excellent team spirit and sportsmanship and this was commented on by teachers from other schools. Congratulations to Holly who came runner up Champion in the Year 5 Girls division. Well done to all those who competed, the final scores are below.
|1st West Greenwood||1443|
|5th Hawker Park||912|
|Meritorius (Overall points divided by the number of students)|
|3rd Hawker Park||5.21|
|5th West Greenwood||3.95|
Staffing Term 4
As most of you will be aware, Marcus Serravite will be leaving us today as he moves to live in the eastern states. Marcus has made a huge impact on our students and staff during his time at Goollelal Primary and it is with sadness that we say goodbye. I wish him all the very best for this new, exciting chapter in his life.
Over the past three years, the Department of Education have been taking steps to reduce the leave liability of their staff in accordance with a directive from the State Government. If staff members have accrued more than 20 days Long Service Leave they must use their long service leave within two years of its accrual. Next term, Kym Tarr has asked to take her Long Service. In her absence, Vanessa Furlong will take TA9 on a full time basis. Mr Jarred Rees will be taking over the Physical Education role for the remainder of the year.
Congratulations Katie and Michelle
Two of our Year 6 students, Michelle and Katie, competed in the Division 1 Under 12 Netball Grand Final last Saturday. The game was hotly contested and our girls were runners up, going down by just 6 points.
ICT-NAP Year 6 Students
Our school is one of 640 Australian schools to have been selected for Year 6 NAP-ICT testing in 2017. This is an assessment of our students ability to use ICT (Information and Communication Technology) built around a series of tasks which use basic computing skills and software. Twenty of our Year 6 cohort were randomly selected to take part in the assessment by ACARA (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority). Parents of the selected students will be receiving a letter with more information.
Health and Safety- Rock Embankment
Following an accident involving a staff member, maintenance and facility officers from the Department of Education will be installing a low fence to limit access to the embankment. In the interim, we have cordoned off the area. If you, or your family are accessing the school grounds during the weekends or holidays, please use the concrete ramp or steps and avoid walking down the rock embankment.
We still have spaces available for Kindy 2018. If you have a child who was born between the 1st of July 2013 and the 30th of June 2014 please come to the office to complete an enrolment form.
