Principal’s Pen | Faction Carnival, Outdoor Classroom, Health & Safety, Assembly & Enrolments
Dear Parents and Families,
This fortnight has been one that has really brought home to me what a lovely school community we have at Goollelal Primary. There have been a number of special events, Kerry Hartmann and I have also been visiting classrooms to see some of the wonderful lessons planned by our hard working teachers and I have been enjoying seeing the work produced by our students, both inside and outside the classrooms. This included visiting our Kindy classes last Friday for their Father’s Day celebrations. Our Kindy students had a great time and I’m sure the Dads and Grandads who were able to come along enjoyed the yummy food and the presents.
The Faction Carnival was held last Wednesday. It was a lovely Spring day with many parents and relatives enjoying the beautiful sunshine. I was so proud to see so many students helping their friends out, cheering each other on and displaying such wonderful sportsmanship. Congratulations to Mr Serravite for organising a highly successful carnival. Thank you to all the staff for the time they invested in practising for the events and helping out on the day. Thanks to our P&C for organising the much needed coffee van! A big thank you to all the parents who helped out, from setting up early in the morning, to pinning on ribbons, taking photos, manning the timing gates and numerous, lovely offers of assistance. Without your help, the carnival would not run as smoothly as it did. Days like this really highlight what a special school community we have here at Goollelal. Congratulations to Red for winning the shield for 2017 and well done to all our Champion and Runner-Up boys and girls.

Outdoor Classroom Day
Last Thursday, all our classes celebrated Outdoor Classroom Day by taking our lessons outside. Our teachers planned a number of activities including Maths and English lessons, Art activities and gardening.
Health and Safety
As many of you may know, last Wednesday, one of our lovely Education Assistants, Caroline Boldra, slipped and fell down the rock embankment and fractured her ankle. Kerry and I visited Caroline in hospital last Thursday and she was in good spirits. Following this accident, I organised for maintenance and facility officers from the Department of Education to come to school to inspect the area and to suggest ways to rectify the problem. As a result, the Department of Education will be installing a low fence to limit access to the embankment. In the interim, we have cordoned off the area. If you, or your family are accessing the school grounds during the weekends or holidays, please use the concrete ramp or steps and avoid walking down the rock embankment.
Our next assembly will be presented by our Kindy room students this Friday, the 15th of September.
We still have spaces available for Kindy 2018. If you have a child who was born between the 1st of July 2013 and the 30th of June 2014 please come to the office to complete an enrolment form.
I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine and have a great week,
Lynne Anderson | PRINCIPAL
