Principal’s Pen | 100 Days, Maths Comp, Enrolments, Playgroup, Staffing & Buildings
Dear Parents and Families,
Welcome back to Term 3. By now all our classes have settled back into their normal classroom routine and have been working hard. This term is already shaping up to be another productive and exciting term with a number of special events taking place including TA2’s Assembly tomorrow, Book Week and our Faction Sports Carnival to name a few.
This week we celebrated 100 days at school. We are very lucky to have teachers who make our school a place where we can learn and have lots of fun at the same time. As part of the celebrations, TA2 also wrote about what they will be like when they are 100 years old. I particularly like Lola’s ideas for when she turns 100! These can be viewed in our School News section if you click on the following link:
Australian Mathematics Competition
This competition is open to Year 4, 5 and 6 students. Last week I put a call out to those classes and had a wonderful response. Today we had 30 students taking part in this online competition and I wish them all the very best.
We still have spaces available for Kindy 2018. If you have a child who was born between the 1st of July 2013 and the 30th of June 2014 please come to the office to complete an enrolment form.
Maria Heenan from the Enhanced Transitions to Schools Project started our trial playgroup today. We had a marvellous response with eight families attending. If you would like to join in the playgroup will continue next week in our Kindy room for another two weeks. Our next session will be on Thursday 3rd August from 9.00am to 11.00am. If you have children in the 0-4 age group who are not yet attending school, please come along! Please see the attached flyer.
As previously mentioned, this term we have two new staff members joining the Goollelal team. I would like to welcome Miss Ashleigh Savage in TA3 and Mrs Vanessa Furlong in TA9. I have already had some lovely, comments from both parents and students about our new teachers and this is a reflection of the caring and welcoming attitude our school community embodies.
School Buildings and Grounds Update
Over the holidays we had numerous painting and minor works projects going on around our school. What a difference the lovely, bright rainbow mural has made to our Kindy area. Thank you to Pia, Dave, Phoebe, Hamish, Alex, Paige, Lily and Tilly for all your hard work. It looks amazing! Soon our jolly giant will be sitting on top of the shed, overseeing the play area. Thank you also to Ben LaForest, our gardener Dom Long and our head cleaner Cameron Johnston for getting the concrete pads prepared and laid ready for our new picnic tables.
Our other school mural, on the wall outside TA13, was completed over a period of three days by artist Paul Deej. Paul incorporated ideas given to him by our Year 5/6 classes to create a design which reflects important elements of our school.
