Principal’s Pen | Playgroup, Cubby & Early Years

Woman writing with pen

Dear Parents and Families,

Thank you to all the parents who responded to our playgroup survey! The overwhelming majority of respondents were interested in attending a playgroup located at the school and the most popular day was Thursday. As a result I have spoken with Maria Heenan from the Enhanced Transitions to Schools Project. Maria will be running a trial playgroup in our Kindy room starting on Thursday 27th July from 9.00am to 11.00am for a three week trial. If you have children in the 0-4 age group who are not yet attending school, please come along! Please see the attached flyer.

Over the last fortnight we have seen the school cubby take shape thanks to the efforts of Ben LaForest and his team. This week it was with much excitement that we saw the grand opening!

As well as the upgrade to our play areas, we have lots of other refurbishment going on around the school. This week work started on replacing some of the uneven and dangerous pathways. While there was some disruption to staff car parking, the work was carried out very quickly and efficiently and should be completed by early next week. We have also been getting quotes for painting the exterior surfaces of the school. Work on the painting will begin during the upcoming school holidays and will start with the administration block. We are also going to go ahead with commissioning a mural on the outside wall of TA13. I put this idea out to our P&C Class Reps and the response been very positive. We will be meeting with the artist, Paul Deej, next week to discuss the ideas we received from our parent reps.

This week our fantastic Kindy teachers, Ros Tsolakis and Michelle Smith, hosted a gathering of Kindy teachers from schools across the North Metropolitan Education Region. Ros and Michelle led the discussion which focused on the development of oral language skills and their relation to developmental writing. The group also discussed assessment practises in early years classrooms and a new Kindergarten reporting format that is being trialled by the Department of Education. We are very lucky to have such dedicated and professional teachers at our school. Well done Ros and Michelle.
